CCTV Spotter

It's the night shift in the police control room. The security camera on each street takes a picture at the same time every evening. Compare yesterday's picture with today's and find everything that has changed.

About the game

CCTV Spotter is a free spot-the-difference game with a police control-room twist. Each level shows two pictures from the same street camera: yesterday on top and today below. Somewhere between them, a few things have changed. Find them all to clear the level.

The street scenes are drawn by the game itself — shops with striped awnings and signs, windows, lamp posts, trees, benches, bicycles, flower pots, a curious cat and parked cars — so every level looks different. There are 15 levels in three ranks, with five changes to find at first and seven in the final rank.

How to play

  1. Compare the two pictures. Look at the same spot in both — the same shop, the same stretch of pavement.
  2. Tap a change. You can tap it in either picture. A found change gets a green circle in both.
  3. Watch the counter. Found shows how many changes you have found out of the total.
  4. Stuck? Press Hint to highlight one of the remaining changes with a blue dashed circle.

What can change

  • Something is missing — a bird on the skyline, a traffic cone, a poster on the wall or a parked car is in one picture but not the other.
  • Something new — the same kind of change the other way round: an object appears in today's picture.
  • A different colour — a door, a car, an awning, a bench or the flowers in a pot. Trees can turn autumn orange.
  • On or off — a window lights up or goes dark, a street lamp switches on or off, a shop sign shows a different word, or an awning's edge changes shape.
Every change is on something clearly visible: the game never hides a change behind a tree or a lamp post.

Stars

A wrong tap — tapping somewhere that did not change — is marked with a short red cross and counted. Hints are counted too.

  • 3 stars: no hints and at most two wrong taps.
  • 2 stars: at most one hint and at most five wrong taps.
  • 1 star: any other finish. Every finished level unlocks the next.

There is no time limit. The time you took is shown at the end, just for fun.

Tips for sharp eyes

  • Scan in strips. Compare the skyline first, then the upper windows, then the shop fronts, the pavement and finally the road. Methodical beats random.
  • Count things. Count the birds, the lit windows in each building, the cars. A different count points straight to a change.
  • Check colours of big objects. Doors, cars and awnings are large, so their colour changes are easy to miss precisely because you don't expect them.
  • Don't tap-spam. Wrong taps cost stars, so only tap when you can see the difference in both pictures.
